Cai's musical journey took off when he joined the studio of Vivian Li and Jay Sun at China's Xinghai Conservatory of Music Midlle School at the age of fifteen. Being offered full scholarships to several conservatories, he ultimately studied with 2001 Cliburn Gold Medalist Stanislav Ioudenitch, and is a graduate of Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Park University International Center for Music. Cai has won prizes in esteemed competitions such as the Sydney International Piano Competition, the Sendai International Music Competition, the Bösendorfer and Yamaha USASU International Piano Competition, Japan Piano Open International Piano Competition, and many more.
